Etz Chaim, Hebrew for "tree of life", is figuratively applied to the Torah itself. Etz Chaim is also used to describe each of the wooden poles to which the parchment of a Sefer Torah is attached.
House of Israel Education Programs
Our Congregation holds to the idea that learning is a valuable lifelong process. Our Religious School and synagogue offer numerous opportunities for learning about the history, customs, and beauty of the Jewish heritage.
Religious School
The excellent House of Israel Religious School is devoted to fostering a positive and rich Jewish identity, teaching moral and ethical qualities, and imparting Jewish skills in a joyous and supportive community. The curriculum focuses on the teachings of the Torah and the prayers and stories of our tradition as well as holiday rituals, Hebrew study, and current events. A special emphasis is placed on the value of tzedakah, community service and acts of loving kindness.

Gesher
As part of the life process of growth and learning, our students celebrate becoming Bar or Bat Mitzvah. Gesher (meaning "bridge") classes extend and deepen teens' Jewish knowledge between Bar/Bat Mitzvah and Confirmation. Confirmation Classes offer an intimate, lively setting in which to complete ones study. The Confirmation year culminates in a profound and creative Confirmation service at Shavu'ot.
