Religious School
Our Religious School
reflects the warmth and commitment of the congregation. We work
diligently to create an environment where children can develop
strong, positive Jewish identities, and begin to fulfill the
goals of Jewish education established by our Religious School
Committee. These goals include being able to communicate to our
congregation and to the community that Congregation House of
Israel is a place of learning for all ages. We strive to
engender a strong, positive Jewish identity and relationship to
the community, and educate children and families in Jewish
history, Torah, Bible, religious practice, culture, ethics, and
Hebrew, through traditional and non-traditional means.
The school currently
has 15 children enrolled, grouped by skill/knowledge more than
age, and who study in very small groups. Members of the
congregation serve as faculty, along with our Rabbi who
works specifically with the confirmation students. We
follow the Goldring/Woldenberg Institute of Southern Jewish Life
in order to be consistent with other small, southern
congregations. Families, toddlers and the larger community
are involved in celebrations of holidays, and for year 2007 we
look forward to one Bar Mitzvah and one Bat Mitzvah. |
